It’s Memorial Day once again! The unofficial start to summer for America. The weekend that will bring out of 38 million travelers across the US driving or flying to destinations with family and friends. We have done our share of traveling this weekend too, making our way by car to Williamsburg, VA. But this weekend is about so much more than barbecues.
Our time in Virginia is quickly coming to an end, as is our daughter’s first year of life. To commemorate both occasions, our great family friend and amazing photographer, Morgan Province, took our family photos in downtown Leesburg, Virginia.
In order to give our children a semblance of “home” we actually bought a home in Virginia where we will head back to between posts. We bought this home knowing that we were moving out of the country but our plan was to rent it out while away. However, many of you may have already had a home here in the States or whichever country you are from. So you may not have had it set in your mind that you wanted to rent out said home. There are pros and cons to selling and renting. These are the questions to ask yourself when making the decision.
It’s my birthday this weekend and I’m so excited! My friends and I are going to TopGolf to pretend we know how to golf for a night! But my birthday got me thinking, what are some great gifts for a traveling mom and/or expat mom? Well I’ve created a list to answer just that question!
A few weeks back while venturing into DC to drop off our visa paperwork, we visited the new Wegmans Wonderplace in the American History Museum. This hands-on exploration zone for little ones ages 0-6 allows for young children to learn about American History in a way that they understand. Wegmans Wonderplace opened only a few months ago in December 2015.
In February, Papa Bear and I decided we were going to take a TV and movie hiatus. Normally our evenings consisted of dinner in front of the TV after putting our daughter to bed and then letting Netflix do it’s thing until it asked us nosily if we were “still watching?” Yes, we were still watching Netflix, mind your own business! We’d been doing this pretty much every night since my husband had returned from overseas. We never really allowed ourselves to get to know each other again, after he’d been gone for a year. We just settled into this routine that allowed TV to replace the our conversations.
The whole family had a free afternoon on Saturday and we were able to hit up the Leesburg Beer Festival! It was such a fun event with over 75 beer tastings. We really could have been tasting beer the entire day, but I’m not sure that would have been a great idea with Goldilocks in tow!
I’m going to MommyCon, are you?!
I’m so incredibly excited to be able to attend MommyCon DC this summer just before we make our big move! MommyCon is a U.S. based multi-city natural parenting conference. There are so many topics that the conference will focus on but some include breastfeeding (and supporting all ways of feeding!), cloth diapering (raise your hands if you cloth diaper, whoop, whoop!), babywearing, birth, car seat safety, natural health and more!
